There are two things I want you to do right now.

1. Just for a moment, suspend any negative beliefs you have about your own skills as a painter. Let yourself believe that you are the absolute best painter that you can be at this very moment.

2. With that belief, what would be different in your life?

I’m sure you could add a lot more to this list. And if you were in a room full of artists, all doing this exercise, everyone’s list would be different — we all want different things, but we all want to paint at our best.

Now, the reason I had you go through this exercise is because I want you to hang on to these thoughts as I prove to you that you can become the absolute best painter you can be. It doesn’t matter if you want to be a famous artist or if you’d just like to stand back and look at your own paintings and be 100% sure they’re good … really good!

While you keep those good thoughts going about how you would feel knowing you were the best painter you could be, think about the areas where you know you need to improve — it could be composition, color schemes, deciding what to include. You probably know where you need a little extra help — more instruction, more practice, and someone to guide you along until you have it just right. 

And if you don’t get that guidance, you’ll stay stuck, and that’s when you risk losing your love for painting.
